7. The Matador (2005)

January 2, 2014

The Matador is one of those movies I could watch anytime. I first saw it several years ago when my friend Liz recommended it, and since then I've watched it many times and it only gets better with age. Julian (Pierce Brosnan) is a hitman on the verge of a nervous breakdown who meets Danny (Greg Kinnear), a businessman with a pretty normal life. They become unlikely friends, and when Julian reveals his profession to Danny, Danny reluctantly becomes involved in the life of an assassin for a few days. Several months later, Julian shows up at Danny's home asking for a place to stay because he was the closest thing to friend or family that he had. Julian, who has been slipping in his duties as a hitman, now has a price on his head, so he enlists Danny to help him in one final job. This is a very solid movie with moving performances and a few twists along the way, and one I would recommend highly.
