January 1, 2014Who doesn't love Tom Hanks? He is probably the best actor of our generation and his performance in Captain Phillips was phenomenal. Telling the true story of a shipping boat captain who gets kidnapped by Somalian pirates, Captain Phillips will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole film. The pirates were extremely convincing, especially since most of them had never acted before (and based on the realism of their performances in this, I'm not sure if I'm convinced that they were even acting!). I was also impressed by the fact that the film is made up almost entirely of practical effects and uses very little CGI. To me, that always makes a movie better.
