65. Knights of Badassdom (2013)

February 1, 2014

It seemed for a long time that Knights of Badassdom would never see the light of day, due to legal troubles and a problematic production, but I'm happy to say it finally came out. I'm not sure how much of that movie ended up cut out, but what I saw was a lot of fun, and felt a bit like a combination of Jack Brooks Monster Slayer and Knightriders. The audience surrounding me in the theater liked it even more than I did from the sound of it, since they were laughing and clapping about every five seconds. That part was a little annoying, but did not distract too awfully much from the movie. When Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Red Hill, Dead Silence) gets dumped, his best friends, Steve Zahn and Peter Dinklage, force him to join them in their live action role playing tournament. In order to make Kwanten eligible to participate in the tournament, the game master forces Zahn (a level 26 wizard) to do a summoning spell. Zahn accidentally summons a demon in the form of Kwanten's ex-girlfriend with a spell book he bought on eBay, and the demon subsequently proceeds to kill and devour the souls of as many players as possible. Kwanten and his friends have to work together to try to destroy the demon before it kills them all. There were some hilarious moments, and I'm looking forward to watching it again to be able to actually hear everything that was said.
