November 1, 2014'The Babadook' wasn't as scary as I'd hoped it would be, but it really was a cool, interesting, and original idea. A young boy with behavioral issues lives with his mother after his father died in a car crash years prior. The mother does her best to take care of him and stand up for him when everyone else seems to think he is a monster. Every evening before putting him to bed, she reads him a story. When he picks an immensely impressive and insanely dark pop-up book off his shelf called The Babadook and she reads it to him, it causes the boy to suddenly believe that the creature from the book is in the house with them and coming to get him. At first the mom doesn't believe it, but strange events occur in the house that start to change her mind. It really was a great movie, and I highly suggest seeing it. I would love to see a replica pop-up book for sale someday, but I heard the director isn't interested in making any more, unfortunately.
