460. Surviving Christmas (2004)

December 7, 2014

This movie didn't look very good, but it has a good cast, so I gave it a shot. To my surprise, I was laughing along with it almost the whole way. It was really stupid, but still pretty funny. Ben Affleck played a lonely millionaire who was feeling depressed over the holidays. His girlfriend's psychologist (Stephen Root) told him to visit a place from his childhood and forgive any grievances, so he went back to the home he grew up in and decided to pay the family that lived there hundreds of thousands of dollars to let him stay with them for a few days. James Gandolfini and Catherine O'Hara were the owners of the house, and they were going through their own problems when Affleck brought his weird version of Christmas to them, and in a way it made things better. This is the only time of year when movies like this are acceptable to watch and not just be sad, so I say go ahead and watch it now or just wait until next Christmas.
