451. Witching and Bitching (2013)

December 2, 2014

I was disappointed by 'The Last Circus' (maybe I should watch it again). Fortunately, Álex de la Iglesia (El Día de la Bestia, Acción Mutante) totally redeems himself here with the most insane movie I've seen in a while. A handful of down-on-their-luck criminals knock off a cash for gold store on a crowded city street wearing a strange assortment of costumes (including a silver-painted Jesus, a green-painted army man, a spongebob squarepants, an invisible man, and a Minnie Mouse), as well as a 10 year old boy (Jesus' son). The cops show up and a major gunfight ensues. Jesus, his son, and the army man get away in a taxi and head for the French border so they can go to Disneyland to hide out. They end up getting trapped in a town infamous for witches and have to fight their way out of being part of a sacrificial ritual to a giant, naked God that swallows people whole. This movie was crazy. There were a lot of sexist themes and characters, mostly indicating that women were evil and men were stupid. A really bizarre and fun movie, I definitely recommend 'Witching and Bitching' to anyone who'll give it a chance with an open mind.
