458. Weasels Rip My Flesh (1979)

December 7, 2014

Director Nathan Schiff can do no wrong in my mind. 'Weasels Rip My Flesh' was his first feature, which he made with a budget of around $400 in the backyards of his friends' and family members' houses. For the resources he had available, he made a very competent and engaging film about a satellite filled with toxic waste that fell to Earth and contaminated the water supply, creating gigantic, rabid weasels, capable of regenerating severed limbs and turning humans into zombie-like creatures. After a man hit one of the weasels with his car, which cut off the creature's arm, he brought the arm back to his laboratory (which looked like a wood-paneled living room) and did some tests. He called his friend over to see the arm and by the time the friend arrived the arm had already started mutating and crawling around on its own. The arm scratched the friend and turned him into a zombie, which put in motion a carnage-filled investigation into the origins of the weasel creatures. I loved it. I'd still recommend 'They Don't Cut The Grass Anymore' first, but 'Weasels Rip My Flesh' is fantastic.
